Teacher Librarian

The Role: 

As a Teacher Librarian, you will provide valuable support to both staff and students in key areas such as teaching and learning, wellbeing, and nurturing a culture of reading. This position is permanent, 0.6FTE, commencing in late January 2025. The successful candidate can negotiate any three working days to suit their schedule.

The Average Day:

Teaching and Learning

  • Create and nurture a learning environment which meets the reading and research needs of the Junior School community and promotes reading for pleasure
  • Collaborate with teachers to support classroom literature programs that result in positive student outcomes.
  • Support year level inquiry learning with the provision of resources and the teaching of information skills.
  • Assist and encourage students to use a variety of resources and technologies, working individually, in small groups or as part of a whole class 
  • Teach the appropriate and relevant use of ICTs and information resources
  • Plan, organise and discuss the library curriculum with the Head of Library 
  • Supports the management of library resources
  • Provide exemplary reference and information services to the Junior School community
  • Collaborate with the library team to promote and implement the annual Carey Celebrates Literature Festival, Book Week and other extracurricular activities

Professional Learning and Development 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning by participating in various professional development activities, including Carey professional development 
  • Maintain awareness of current trends and changes by remaining in contact with relevant associations and other professional networks 

The Person: 

To be successful in this position, you will have: 

  • Teacher Librarianship qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching 
  • High level knowledge of and passion for early childhood to young adult literature 
  • Ability to develop dynamic programs of wide reading and literature celebration 
  • Organisational excellence 
  • Previous experience working with Library Management Systems 
  • Specific expertise and experience in leading literacy teams is desirable 

A valid Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) is a requirement of employment in this position
