Library Technician

The Role: 

Reporting to the Head of Carey Libraries, the Library Technician will work collaboratively with the Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI) team and wider Carey Libraries’ staff on the continual development and maintenance of the library’s physical and online collections. 

The Library Technician provides support to library users, ensuring easy access to resources, maintenance of the library spaces and assistance with the management and supervision of students.

The Average Day:

Resource Management

• Coordination of acquisitions, including resource sourcing, placing approved orders, invoicing
• Liaising with book suppliers, teachers, and Carey Accounts 
• Ensuring cataloguing is correct and maintained using School Catalogue Information Service (SCIS), original cataloguing and classifying items, as required
• Completing end processing of resources including covering 
• Collection Management

General 

• Collaborate with Carey library staff across campuses to resolve technical issues, facilitate the sharing of resources and develop and maintain efficient library procedures 
• Supervise students during non-class times
• Assist with the facilitation of the Carey Celebrates Literature program and other special events

The Person: 

To be successful in this position, you will have: 

• ALIA accredited Diploma of Library and Information Services 
• Previous experience using a library management system for cataloguing, including records download 
• Experience in a busy school environment supervising and assisting students to undertake sustained, focused individual silent study and cooperative group learning 
• Experience in operating a busy library help desk to provide client-focused support, guidance and referral 

A valid Employee Working with Children Check is a requirement of employment for this position.

This role is primarily based at the Kew campus however there may be a requirement to move between libraries and campuses. 

The Library Technician work 41 weeks of the year (Term-time + 2 weeks of term break) so you can enjoy most of the school holidays!
